The Open Model Initiative (OMI) is a global, collaborative project dedicated to fostering the growth and development of openly licensed baseline AI models for image, video, and audio generation. By bringing together talented individuals and organizations, we aim to empower a community to openly develop and innovate in AI, making the benefits of generative technology accessible to all.
Our Vision and Mission
The Open Model Initiative is driven by a commitment to openness and collaboration. Our mission is to:
- Create and Maintain Openly Licensed AI Models
- Promote Responsible AI Development and Transparency
- Support Cross-Community and Cross-Project Collaboration
Stay Connected & Informed
Discord Community
Connect with OMI members, get project updates, and engage in discussions.
All Hands Meetings
The OMI TSC and working groups oversee the technical growth and direction of OMI. All Hands meetings are open to the public, making it easy to stay engaged and informed.Meet the people behind the initiative, get updates on project progress, and discuss new ideas and future directions. We host regular all-hands calls every other Thursday on Discord at 10:00 AM EST.
Participate in OMI Working Groups
Machine Learning Working Group (ML WG)
The ML Working Group is responsible for defining and implementing the architecture of our openly licensed AI models. This group focuses on:
- Model Design and Training
Developing baseline models for image, video, and audio generation with high-quality outputs. - Performance Optimization
Researching and implementing techniques to improve efficiency and scalability. - Algorithm Innovation
Exploring new and emerging methodologies in machine learning to enhance model capabilities.
The ML Working Group is the technical core of OMI model development, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with open-source AI.
Data Working Group
The Data Working Group ensures that the models created are supported with well-curated and responsibly sourced datasets. Their responsibilities include:
- Data Aggregation and Curation
Collecting and curating datasets that align with OMI’s ethical standards. - Data Standardization and Documentation
Establishing best practices for documenting datasets to improve model training and deployment. - Tooling & Data Pipeline Development
Developing and maintaining our data pipeline applications to provide workflows for the sourcing and curation of high quality data.
The Data Working Group is key to maintaining the quality and reliability of the data used to train AI models developed at OMI.
